This document has been prepared for professional legal review before it takes effect as a final policy.
Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Komuniverse processes personal data when you use our platform. We are committed to operating transparently, collecting only what is necessary, and respecting the rights of those who trust us with their data.
By using Komuniverse, you acknowledge that you have read this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
Who we are
Komuniverse is a technology infrastructure platform for communities, events, calls for talks, and audience participation. We provide tools for organizers, speakers, and participants; we are not the organizer of third-party events published on the platform.
For privacy and data protection inquiries, contact us at hello@komuniverse.com.
Data we collect
We follow data minimization: we collect only data that is adequate and necessary to operate the service. Depending on how you use the platform, we may process:
Account and identity data: name, email address, and public identifier (handle). You may optionally provide a short biography on your profile.
Participation data: event registrations, call-for-talks submissions and status, attendance or check-in when applicable, event feedback, and other interactions required to operate the features you use.
Operational and technical data: access logs, IP address, session identifiers, browser and device type, needed for authentication, security, abuse prevention, and service stability.
We do not intentionally collect civil identity documents (such as national ID or passport), phone numbers, date of birth, financial data, or sensitive information beyond what is strictly necessary for the features described. We do not use commercial tracking cookies, behavioral advertising, or sell personal data.
Legal bases and purposes
We process personal data for legitimate, proportionate purposes, including: providing and improving the service; authentication and account management; operating communities, events, and calls for talks; operational communications related to your account or participation; legal compliance; and protecting the platform against fraud, abuse, or unauthorized access.
Where required by applicable law — including Brazil's General Data Protection Law (LGPD) where relevant — we rely on contract performance, legitimate interests compatible with your rights, legal obligation, or consent, as appropriate.
We do not use your data for invasive commercial profiling, third-party remarketing, or any purpose incompatible with this Policy.
Data sharing
We share data only when necessary and proportionate:
Event and community organizers: when you register, submit a talk proposal, attend an event, or interact with an organization, relevant information (such as name, email, and participation data) may be made available to the responsible organizer to operate the event or community.
Technology service providers: we use infrastructure, hosting, and authentication providers to operate the platform. These partners process data on our behalf under contractual confidentiality and security obligations.
Legal obligations: we may disclose data when required by a competent authority or to protect the rights, safety, and integrity of the platform and its users.
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data.
Retention
We retain personal data only as long as needed to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
When you close your account or request deletion, we delete or anonymize data proportionally, except where retention is required by law, fraud prevention, or legitimate operational needs.
Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access, loss, alteration, or improper disclosure. This includes access controls, encryption in transit where applicable, and secure development practices.
No system is completely risk-free. If a security incident may affect your rights, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
Your rights
Under applicable data protection laws — including the LGPD where relevant — you may have the right to:
Confirm processing and access your data; correct incomplete, inaccurate, or outdated data; request anonymization, restriction, or deletion of unnecessary or unlawfully processed data; request portability where applicable; obtain information about sharing; withdraw consent when processing is consent-based, without affecting prior lawful processing; and object to processing based on legitimate interests, as provided by law.
Some rights may be exercised directly in your account settings when available.
How to exercise your rights
To request access, correction, deletion, or clarification about how we process your data, email hello@komuniverse.com with a privacy-related subject. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe as required by applicable law.
We may request additional information to verify your identity before fulfilling sensitive requests, to protect your account and platform security.
Children and minors
Komuniverse is not intended for users under 18 without supervision of a legal guardian. We do not intentionally collect children's data beyond what is strictly necessary when a guardian uses the platform on their behalf.
If you believe we have collected a minor's data inappropriately, contact hello@komuniverse.com so we can review and take appropriate action.
International transfers
The infrastructure and service providers we use may process data in countries other than yours. When this occurs, we apply reasonable contractual and technical safeguards consistent with applicable data protection laws.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in the service, law, or our practices. The last updated date is shown at the top of this page. Material changes may be communicated through reasonable means, such as a notice on the platform or by email.
We recommend reviewing this Policy periodically. Continued use after changes are published constitutes acknowledgment of the updated terms, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
